A Book Report Dress: The Perfect School Dress

Let's be honest, folks:  I could have written this post MONTHS ago, when I sewed the Book Report dress, but it sat in my sewing room alllll through the summer, as it was originally a bit big-looking on Camden.  I don't know if growing a whole inch helps, but it totally fits her great now, and she wore it to her one-day-a-week charter school a few weeks ago.  I will always love this pattern so much!  (On a side note, same with the Apple Picking Dress and Jump Rope Dress and Seashore Sundress....well, and the Class Picnic Set, aha!)

This is a pretty straight-forward sew, designed by Oliver and S.  The pockets are crazy easy to do, and it goes together relatively fast.  I think I lengthened the skirt portion - not sure if I did the same with the top or the sleeves, though one would THINK this is something I did, LOL.  You can see my first three versions HERE (which, on another note, I notice I did NOT include photos of the polka dot version in the post, which is why I'd maybe never originally published it - see the note at the top of the post.  I am so wack, and it turns out I had no real photos of it....just one sad photo I just now uploaded).

Because the dress is super roomy, I feel it fits great for a while, as it can always be paired with leggings, and this particular fabric was something I'd been holding onto, NEVER sure which project was worthy of it, aha!  I guess this was it ;)  And I chose the perfect buttons from my stash, but I'm not sure if you can see them super well in the photo below:

That's all she wrote, folks....days in the life of below!

Let's Go On a Class Picnic to the Theater...And Moving Details

Let's be honest, folks:  This moving thing is sucking the life out of me.  (Well, and the HEAT was sucking the life out of me, too, but we've moved past that, aha!)  It's not crazy in the sense that I'm wiped out from all the HARD work I've been doing.  I've done my share of nail-pulling, sweeping and garbage-tossing, amongst other things.  But whew!  My in-laws and Matt and his friend, Bill, have done SO MUCH WORK.  It's insane.

Turns out we found the money pit of Central Oregon.  LOL.  Or....yikes.

We have ripped out drywall, ceilings and floors - and the bathroom...and the electrical...and the kitchen cabinets.

All we'd planned to do was replace the carpeting with inexpensive pine flooring.

Anyway, I'll include some pictures of the house re-model process, but on to bigger and better things....

Camden's newest Oliver and S outfit - the Class Picnic set!  I love how this turned out - especially the shorts.  I was happy this was an outfit I was prepared for, quite by accident.  I happily owned enough brown corduroy - and the sateen polka dots were purchased from Superbuzzy a year or so ago, along with other colors.  The shorts went together beautifully.  I've made them a couple times before.

Right before our big move a few hours south!

The Alice in Wonderland fabric is something I'd been inadvertently hoarding in my stash for years now.  I never quite knew what to make with it, as it's a bit heavier, but this seemed the perfect project, even though the top is clearly meant for something a bit lighter weight (not that you'll see ANOTHER Class Picnic top, in lightweight fabric, in the next blog post or anything....).  I did lengthen both the body and sleeves, and it's noticeably bigger on Camden, but it's not too bad, and at least she can wear it next year, too.

I have nothing riveting to say about the pattern, as I've made it before, and it goes together really well!  Just keep your shorts pattern pieces straight and labeled, and you'll be good to go, aha!

She wore the outfit to see James and the Giant Peach back in May, which turned out to be super fun!  We rarely get to see her Vancouver friends, and we greatly miss them, so, it was nice to catch a show together!

Awww, love this one!!!
As for house craziness, here are a few photos to give y'all insight as to why my blog has been even quieter than normal, aha!

Turns out THIS was underneath the wall you see above!
INSANE hot water heater...I want it GONE
LOL...in pictures below, you see what we thought about THIS kitchen!  (Because of the crazy water damage)

Eyesore of a furnace, but compare it to the photo above!
And we ended up removing the arches because well....demolition

Kitchen floor...yikes!!!  We hope to actually do the kitchen floor right after moving in!

I somehow forgot a before phot of the bathroom!
